Our actions, as individuals and as a company, impact society and the environment. However, we can change this impact through our choices. For this reason, since the establishment of Planetek Italia, we have nurtured the ambition to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
In these years of activity, we have matured the awareness that economic growth, as we have known so far, has led to unsustainable environmental pressure in the long term and produced unsatisfactory results in terms of equality and social inclusion.
We are persuaded that companies can contribute significantly to achieving challenging objectives that combine development and sustainability. For this reason, in 2021, we evolved into a Benefit Company, and in 2022, we started monitoring our sustainability performances.
Since April 2021, Planetek Italia has adopted the status of 'Benefit Company' and has included objectives of common benefit in its corporate statute.
This is a business model aimed at combining economic, social and environmental sustainability.
Our choice aims to reinforce our commitment to pursuing a generative business model, which puts the well-being of people and the environment in which we operate at the forefront and formally commits us to act responsibly, sustainably and transparently towards people, communities, territories and the environment, cultural and social assets and activities, bodies and associations and other stakeholders.
People's well-being and environmental protection have been Planetek Italia's hallmark since it was founded in 1994, and the evolution into a Benefit Company is the result of a journey lasting more than 30 years.

Quality

Since its early years, Planetek Italia has aimed at continuous improvement of its products and services and of its organization's management, following the total quality system and aiming at the complete satisfaction of its customers.
Planetek Italia has adopted a "company system" instead of a generic "quality system" in order to manage each activity in accordance with detailed internal rules and convert these rules into informatics procedures.
According to Planetek Italia, Quality is a philosophy, a way to operate which includes all the activities of the company and becomes a clear definition of customer requirements, that is, a "project" approach to the orders, for a subdivision of the activities into "work packages" defining responsible, output, input, work times and verifications. Such a methodological way of work allows the planning of activities and the respect of times and specifications of the systems realized.
The organization of the company system in compliance with the ISO rules has led Planetek Italia to pass the inspection on January 14th, 2000, and to receive the ISO 9001 certification for "Design, realization and servicing of geographical information system (G.I.S.), cartographical and Earth Observation data processing (E.O.). Design and delivery of training services regarding geographical information system and Earth Observation.".
On March 23rd, 2001, Planetek Italia also passed the inspection for the new ISO 9001:Vision 2000 certification with the maximum marks. This certification allowed Planetek Italia to become one of the first companies in Italy and the very first in Southern Italy to reach this goal.
Planetek's management system is also certified as compliant with the guidelines for applying ISO 9001 to the provision of remote sensing services as defined by the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC).

Environment

Planetek Italia adopts an Environment Management System in conformity with ISO 14001:2015 rules and the directive CE n.1221/2009 (EMAS III). Planetek Italia is truly concerned with considering the environment as a part of its production and business and operates with respect to Italian and European environmental laws and directives. People

We usually choose people and consider their skills. Our office has opening and closing times, but we are flexible because we are focused on goals.

We are informal, reliable and open: we enjoy ourselves doing always new activities, sharing efforts and celebrating the goals reached.

Here you will find huge and excellent coffee, table soccer to have a break during tiring days, a very nice seafront meters from our headquarters to stroll about during your lunch break, huge calories to celebrate anniversaries, a bookcase with shared books, fantasy football, soccer and volleyball matches with colleagues, and many more activities.

Good health and well-being

We have a nice, comfortable, bright office with little noise just a few steps from the sea, and walks along the seafront are part of a daily ritual during the working day. Those who wish can play sports at a sports centre that has an agreement with us, also thanks to flexible working hours. Table soccer matches punctuate the working day. Five-a-side football and volleyball are evening social moments open to everyone. We have appointed a CPO, Chief Party Officer, who, with everyone's input, organizes fun and recreational activities every month. Tickets and season tickets are made available for employees to attend theatre performances free of charge.

Quality education

Preventing people's 'obsolescence' is a primary goal for us, and therefore, we promote further education courses and participation in conferences. We stimulate participation in degree courses, PhD and master’s degrees. We periodically organize corporate seminars (Design Lab Meeting, Aperitek) that are also open to outsiders on topics proposed by the employees on technological, social and environmental issues. We host internships and apprenticeships through agreements with local universities and participate in school-work integration projects. We support industrial academic doctorates.

We are a company certified for Gender Equality.

The UNI/PdR 125:2022 certification is a voluntary certification that requires the adoption of specific indicators, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), in relation to 6 evaluation areas for the different variables that define an inclusive organization respectful of gender equality. In 2024, we achieved the first certification, scoring 81 100.

Seemly work and economic growth

Since 2016, Planetek Italia has been listed among the 100 best Italian companies according to the Welfare Index PMI report, which certifies companies with welfare systems well above the industry average.
In 2022, at the Welfare Index PMI Planetek Italia ranked third nationwide out of more than 6,500 companies evaluated.
At Industria Felix 2023, it was awarded as the best innovative SME for management performance and financial reliability inspired by ESG principles, entering the Golden Register of the most competitive and reliable companies in Italy and being awarded the High Honor of Financial Statements.

Sustainable cities and communities

We promote sustainable mobility through public transport and cycling. We strongly encourage staff business trips using public transport.
We promote the cultural growth of the region by supporting Teatri di Bari's activities economically and managerially.

Responsible consumption and production

The company's computers are all energy-efficient, and we use cloud-based servers that guarantee a high level of energy efficiency.

We have made investments to improve the energy efficiency of our workplace by progressively adopting LED lighting, improving the thermal insulation of the offices, and air conditioning of the rooms and the server room. We also carry out separate collections of glass, plastic, paper, and organic waste.

We are committed to reducing the use of plastic by exclusively adopting compostable products

Industry, innovation, infrastructures

We invest more than 5% of our turnover in research activities. We cooperate with local, national, and international research institutes and universities for training placements, dissertations, Ph. D.s, and scholarships.

We share our know-how and expertise through our learning platform (https://eolearning.planetek.it) and the organization of free educational internships, conferences, workshops, and seminars.

Affordable and clean energy

We have chosen an electricity supplier that guarantees, through the Guarantee of Origin issued by the GSE, to purchase only green energy, produced exclusively from renewable sources, without the use of fossil fuels and without greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. We work constantly to reduce energy consumption for the running of the headquarters, for our travel and for the operation of the computers and servers we use for our activities.

Climate action

Thanks to the investment plan implemented in 2013 for the energy efficiency of the work environment, our energy consumption has gradually decreased.
In 2023, only renewable sources were used to produce energy consumed, with an estimated saving of over 68 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere (source: Enegan).

Continuous training – Planetek Academy

Planetek Academy supports the company's mission of fostering the common good by advancing geospatial knowledge.

Planetek Academy's activities are structured into initiatives aimed at company staff and others interested in deepening their understanding of the geospatial and space world.

Planetek Academy organizes courses, seminars, webinars, hackathons, internships, and scholarships for company staff, students, researchers, and anyone interested in the geospatial field. The training programs cover topics such as Earth observation, GIS, WebGIS, SDI, data processing, machine learning, radar, satellite missions, and software tools.

Expert staff teach the modules, which include both theoretical and practical sessions.
The activities of Planetek Academy aimed at internal staff have focused on training dozens of new hires to provide cross-cutting knowledge on various geomatics topics.

The main activity initiated was the design and delivery of a training program to be carried out in 2023 and 2024, structured into over 15 training modules.
The courses are delivered in synchronous mode in person. All courses are video-recorded and enrich the catalogue of all training resources freely accessible to all Planetek staff and individuals undertaking internships and doctoral programs.

The Academy's external activities included organizing Hackathons, webinars, and informational seminars, supporting numerous doctoral research projects, and providing internships and training placements.

The EO-Learning MOOC is freely accessible in a free mode with the release of educational credits for those enrolled in the geologists' association.
